Steve's Biography

About Steve Kornell

A St. Petersburg Native, Steve was born at Mound Park Hospital in 1966.   Steve attended Childs Park Elementary School and went on to graduate from Gibbs High School in 1984.

 

After High School, Steve attended St. Petersburg Junior College (now St. Petersburg College), and Graduated from Eckerd College in 1995 with a BA in Human Development.   In 2005, Steve graduated from the University of South Florida and earned his MSW degree (Master of Social Work).

 

While attending college, Steve worked part-time for the St. Petersburg Recreation Department where he spent five-years at the Shore Acres Recreation Center and eight-years at the Childs Park Receation Center serving as a Supervisor.  

   

In 2005, Steve began working for the Pinellas County School System as a School Social Worker.  The schools Steve has worked in have included Jamerson Elementary, Boca Ciega High School, Lakewood High School and Dixie Hollins High School, among others.  Steve continues to work in the Pinellas County School System as a School Social Worker job sharing while serving on the St. Petersburg City Council.

 

 In 2009, Steve was elected to a partial term (2-years) to the St. Petersburg City Council District 5 seat and is currently seeking re-election.

 

St. Petersburg City Council Assignments:

• Chairman, Budget Finance and Taxation Committee

• Chairman, Enterprise Zone Development Association

• Council Representative, International Relations Committee

• Council Representative, Arts Advisory Committee

• Member. Co-Sponsored events committee.

 

Serves on the Policy Board of the Tampa Bay Estuary Program.
